333,294. Wellman Smith Owen Engineering Corporation, Ltd., and Stockdale, S. May 11, 1929. Discharging. - Apparatus for use in the discharge of coke ovens comprises a coke-guide 25 and a door-operating device connected together at an angle to form a unit which is pivotally mounted on a truck 11 so that as one is swung out of position the other takes its place. The guide 25 is movably mounted on rollers 37 in a structure 24 which is pivoted in lower and upper bearings 26, 27 provided on the truck frame and in one of the upper girders 16 respectively. Projecting from the upper end of the structure 24 and arranged at an angle to the guide 25 are rails 23 which support a wheeled trolley 22 carrying the door-operating mechanism, the free ends of the two parts of the structure 24 being supported by rollers 29, 30 running on a fixed rail 28. A connecting-rod 34 is attached at one end to the trolley 22 and at the other to an arcuate rack 33 loosely mounted on the pivot 27 and adapted to be operated through gearing 32 by an electric motor 31. The rod 34 is provided at its point of connection with the trolley 22 with a roller 35 which engages a fixed guiderail 36 having a straight part and a curved portion as shown. In operation, with the parts in the position shown in Fig. 4, the motor 31 is started to move the rack 33 in an anti-clockwise direction, the engagement of the roller 35 with the straight part of the rail 36 causing the trolley 22 to travel rearwardly on its rails 23 away from the oven 13 until it contacts with a stop 41, Fig. 5. Further rotation of the rack 33 causes the structure 24 to rotate as a whole about its pivots to bring the guide 25 into line with the oven. A second motor is then started to move the guide forwardly on the rollers 37 into contact with the face of the oven. A. motor 20, Fig. 3, is mounted on the truck 11 to effect its movement on the rails 12 along the face of the oven battery.
