[Classes 79 (iii) and 79 (v).] In vehicles mounted on swivelling bogies 1 having steerable wheels 5 connected to duplicate controlling points by duplicate connections one for each direction of travel, the means provided to put one connection into action simultaneously releases the other. In the construction shown the vehicle is mounted on two bogies 1, only one of which is shown, and the steerable wheels 5 are steered by rods 6 connected to a member 8 pivoted on the bogie. The member 8 is formed with a central slot 10, and corresponding slots 15, 16 are formed in steering bars 11, 12 rotatable in the member 8. The steering bars are controlled by pins 17, 18 fixed on the main vehicle frame 3 and engaging with slots in the bars. A slidable pin member 19 can be moved along the slot 10 by cords 21 passing over rollers 22 and operated by hand means (not shown). When the pin is at one end of the slot, as shown in Fig. 1, it locks the member 8 and the bar 11 together, leaving the bar 12 free; when it is at the other end it frees the bar 11 and locks the bar 12 to the member 8. In the position shown, for movement in the direction of the arrow, movement of the bogie about its pivot 2 rocks the bar 11 and therefore the member 8, thus steering the wheels 5. The cords 21 in moving the pin 19 to lock the bar 11 to the member 8 of the front bogie simultaneously cause a similar pin to lock the bar 12 of the rear bogie to its member 8 so that the trailing wheels of the rear bogie are steered oppositely to the leading wheels of the front bogie. When the vehicle is to travel in the reverse direction, the pins 19 are moved to the opposite ends of the slots. The front steering bar 11 may be moved independently of the swinging of the bogie by means of a screw adjustment 27 for the pin 17, the screw being rotated by a hand-wheel 29 and gearing. Or, in trailer vehicles, the pin 17 may be carried by the drawbar. In a vehicle, such as a pole trailer, having the distance between the bogie pivots variable, the distance of the pin 18 controlling the rear steering bar 12 from the centre of the member 8 may be made adjustable so as to vary the leverage of the steering bar.
