Abstract
368,475. Transformers. CROMPTON PARKINSON, Ltd., Netherfield Works, Guiseley, near Leeds, and WEAVING, R., Arc Works, Chelmsford. Jan. 30, 1931, No. 3055. [Class 38 (ii).] In an arrangement for changing transformer t a p connections under load in which a pair of magnetically independent chokes are associated with tappings 13 .. 17 on a section T, S of the winding to be regulated, the chokes 1, 2 operate as primaries of auxiliary transformers, the secondaries 3, 4 of which are so interconnected that the voltages induced therein are opposed in the running positions, i.e. when both chokes are connected to the same tap. Tap changing is effected by a drum controller 18 the contacts of which are so arranged as to produce a sequence of operations in which the chokes are connected alternately to the same tap and to adjacent taps. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown) additional contacts are provided on the drum controller for short-circuiting the auxiliary transformer primaries in the running positions, i.e. except during tap changing.
