Abstract

369,555. Endless belt conveyers. BRITISH HARTFORD - FAIRMONT SYNDICATE, Ltd., 143, Audrey House, Ely Place, London, and WARDLEY, T., Rockware Avenue, Greenford, Middlesex. Nov. 19, 1930, No. 34874. [Class 78 (i).] The transfer of glass bottles or the like from one position to another, for example from a dead plate to a conveyer, is effected or facili. tated by means of air under pressure which impinges or acts on the bottles. The dead plate A is constituted by y the top of a casing B secured close to an endless conveyer C. Compressed air is supplied to the casing by a pipe D, and to a flattened tube or nozzle F, across the rear end of the plate A, by a branch pipe E. The plate A is provided with a number of closely arranged and preferably inclined apertures A<1>, while the nozzle F has a series of openings F<1> through which air issues in a forward direction. The air supply may be controlled by a valve operated by air used in the bottle forming machine so that air issues from the apertures A<1>, F<1> only at predetermined intervals after the bottle has been deposited on the dead plate. The bottle is supported by the jets from the apertures A<1> which also assist in the transfer if they are forwardly inclined. The air pressure is regulated by means of valves on the pipes D, E. The nozzle F is adjustable about its axis to vary the direction of the air jets. A guide plate G may be adjustably mounted on the dead plate A and arranged to cover some of the apertures A<1>, Fl as required. The apertures A<1> may be used without the nozzle F, and the transfer of the bottle effected either with or without the use of a wiper or mechanical device. Similarly, the nozzle F may be used only. The Provisional Specification describes also the use of an air jet directed on to the bottle in a direction opposite to that of the movement of a wiper arm, to give a steadying effect.
