386,998. Sound receiving, transmitting, and reproducing devices. CLUTSAM, F. and CLUTSAM, M. M. D., 115, Wigmore Street, London. July 24, 1931, No. 21247. Addition to 368,725. [Class 40 (iv).] A sound receiving, transmitting, or reproducing device comprises a plurality of spaced soundboards 10, 11, 12, Fig. 1, some or all of which have stiffening strips 13 secured to them, and an electromagnetic unit whose moving part engages one of the soundboards by simple contact only, at least two of the soundboards being interconnected only by a rib 40 tiansverse to the stiffening strips. The rib preferably makes contact with the soundboards over part of their width only and marginally located screws 41 allow the soundboards to be drawn together at their edges and tensioned. The rib 40 may assume the shapes shown in Figs. 4 and 5, engaging one soundboard over a smaller area than the other. The stiffening strips 13 may be wider at both extremities than at their centres. The boards may be interconnected at their margins by a small rigidly mounted block 46, Fig. 3 (not shown).
