K., Newlands, St. Aubins Avenue, Sholing, Southampton, all in Hampshire. Oct. 4, 1932, No. 27516. [Class 7 (iii).] A spherical combustion chamber for a Diesel or other compression ignition engine comprises a part f which is integral with the cylinder head c and an externally threaded part h which carries the fuel injection nozzle o, a passage g leading tangentially into the chamber which is eccentric to the cylinder axis. The opening through which the part h is inserted is closed by a plate p. To prevent the cooling water from leaking into the combustion chamber or into the atmosphere, either the nozzle is surrounded by a copper sheath or the plug h is extended to form a cylindrical sleeve r, a sealing ring u being compressed between a retaining member s, and the plate p. A heating cartridge v may be inserted through a plug w. In a modified construction, the passage g and the nozzle o are arranged at 45‹ to the cylinder axis.
