Abstract

438,682. Optical instruments. OTTWAY & CO., Ltd., W., and OTTWAY, W. R., Orion Works, Ealing, London. Oct. 30, 1934, No. 31115. [Class 97 (i)] In optical instruments such as telescopes, binoculars &c., in which focusing is effected by adjustment of the eyepiece and an indicator is provided by which the adjustment can be read, the indicator is arranged within the instrument so as to be visible on looking through the eyepiece. As shown, the eye lens 4 is mounted in a sleeve 1 screwed on to the tube 2 so that rotation of the sleeve varies the distance between the lens 4 and field lens 5 for focusing. An index 8 associated with a fixed focusing scale 10 graduated in diopters is connected by a pin 9 to the sleeve 1 so as to rotate therewith without moving axially. The scale 10 is located around the outer edge of the field so as not to obtrude in the normal line of vision. A lamp 12 may be provided to illuminate the scale and indicator.
