Abstract

475,354. Treating sewage; filters. TRIGGS, W. W. (Dorr Co., Inc.) May 13, 1936, No. 13525. [Classes 46 and 111] Sewage is subjected to biological treatment by circulation through an aerating trickling filter. The apparatus shown in Fig. 2 comprises a filter 31 and a combined detention and settling-tank 10. The liquid is supplied to the tank 10 through a pipe 13 and central diffuser 22. Supernatant liquid passing into an overflow trough 24 is delivered to the filter by a pump 27 and a rotary distributer 33. The liquid collecting at the base of the filter returns through a pipe 40 to the diffuser 22. As liquid is supplied through the pipe 13 a corresponding amount is discharged from the trough 24 over an adjustable weir. Apparatus shown in Fig. 6 is arranged to allow of a two-stage treatment. It comprises two tanks 110, 210 and two filters 131, 231. Liquid supplied to the tank 110 by the pipe 13 is subjected to treatment as described in connection with Fig. 2. Treated liquid passes over a weir 142 connected to the overflow trough 24 of the tank 210 and undergoes further treatment by circulation through the filter 231.
