Abstract
479,691. Centrifugal separators. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE. Aug. 14, 1936, No. 22480. Convention date, Aug. 16, 1935. [Class 23] Liquids and gases are separated from a mixture by centrifugal force, and the kinetic energy of the whirling mixture is utilized for bringing the separated liquid to a pressure higher than that prevailing at the entrance to the separator. The mixture is introduced tangentially by the inlet branch 1 to the casing 2 from which it passes to the passage way 3 and the cylindrical separating space 4. The length of the passage 3 is at least four times its minimum width. The mixture whirls in the space 4 and the separated gas or vapour passes upwards to the outlet 6. The liquid flows outwards and its pressure increases through the passage 7 to the spiral casing 8, and the outlet 9. The passage 7 may have guide vanes or widening passages as arranged in a diffuser. Where the separator is installed in the path of a circulating liquid, the pressure at its discharge end gives relief to the circulating pump.
