Abstract

489,794. Washing-machines. BAILEY, B. M. March 17, 1937, No. 7839. [Class 138 (ii)] Articles to be washed are fed into the righthand or upper end of an inclined perforated open-ended cylinder 11 which is rotated within a stationary casing 12 by means of V-belts or chains 13 from a shaft 15. Helical blades 17 are provided within the cylinder to facilitate passage of the goods and they are discharged by an endless conveyer 27. Water is passed through the casing in the reverse direction to the passage of the goods and portions of the casing are stepped to confine the water at certain points. Steam is admitted by a pipe 24 and bleaching liquor and detergents by pipes 25, 26. The cylinder may be replaced by a drum of frusto-conical form with its axis horizontal. The goods being fed in at the narrower end.
