Abstract
499,730. Insulators. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 28, 1938, No. 19149. Convention date, June 30, 1937. [Class 36] In a liquid-filled high-voltage bushing insulator having an expansion chamber 21 at one end thereof, to which chamber the liquid 19 filling the bushing has access through a pipe 20, the space above the liquid in the expansion chamber, which is sealed from the outer atmosphere, communicates through a pipe 25 with a second expansion chamber 26 within the insulating casing of the bushing. The chamber 26 and the space above the liquid in the chamber 21. contain gas such as dry air or nitrogen. In the construction shown the chamber 26 is formed by two coaxial metal tubes connected together at their ends and surrounding the lead through conductor 10. The tubes may or may not carry current. A drain tube 27 having a stopper 28 is provided to allow removal of liquid which may enter the chamber 26.
