Abstract

499,793. Stuffing box substitutes. TENNANT, W. J. '(Aktiebolaget Ljungstroms Angturbin) July 29, 1937, No. 21076. [Class 122 (v)] In a labyrinth packing for turbine shafts the abutting end surfaces 35, 33 of the stationary and rotary rings 14, 7 respectively are provided with interengaging cylindrical projections so as to prevent relative radial movement. The rings are held in close contact by springs 23, 24, and packing rings 19, 22 prevent leakage of steam between the rings and shaft. A space 28 is supplied with air under pressure to exclude leakage steam from the shaft bearings. Specification 460,357 is referred to.
