Abstract

515,002. Pipe joints. SCOTT, J. W. May 17, 1938, No. 14718. [Class 99 (i)] In a joint in which a nut 14 scraws on to a coupling member 10 to compress a rubber ring 13 around a pipe 20 and against a seat 12, considerable clearance being left to allow angular movements of the pipe, the pipe end is flared at 18 to embrace the inner surface of the ring. A washer 16 has a conical or spherical surface engaging the ring, and the flange 15 of the nut has a sharp edge engaging the washer. The member 10 may consist of or be lined with stainless steel. A loose ring on the member 10 may be connected by chains to lugs on the pipe.
