Abstract
519,684. Automatic temperature control. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., GILLING, R. S., and COCKE, K. J. R. Sept. 22, 1938, No. 27658. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVII] The temperature of electric heating apparatus 1 is controlled by intermittently breaking the circuit to it by means of a snap-action switch 8 controlled by a thermal element 4 with its own heating coil 3, and by varying the relative times of "make" and " break." In the form shown, the apparatus 1 is in series with the heater 3, current through which causes a bimetallic strip 4 to bend' and operate the switch 8 to break the circuit. The strip 4 then cools and the current is remade. Adjustment is effected by means of a screw 7 or 9. Adjustment may also be effected by moving the heating element or by providing heat insulatory material and the heating element may be in shunt with the apparatus.
