Abstract

520,111. Illuminated signs. GROVES, W. W. (Henderson, E. G., and Morgan, C. J.). Oct. 27, 1938, No. 31093. [Class 3 (ii)] A sign is constructed with two transparent or translucent sheets, which may be of laminated glass, spaced apart and secured by a strip of celluloid and enclosing between them a spaced opaque sheet illumination being effected by a light source in a tube along the edge and sign characters being provided on the outer faces of the outer sheets opposite to etched portions on the inner surfaces. As shown, sheets 6 connected by celluloid strips 7 enclose an opaque sheet 8 and carry on their outer surfaces the sign characters 4. These characters may be of glass with ground or facetted corners, and the sheets 6 are etched at posts 12 behind the characters, illumination being effected by a light source in a tube 3 at the edge. The sign characters may be of opaque material, in which case the etching of the supporting sheets is opposite the edges of the characters.
