Abstract

535,663. Centriifugal separators. URQUHART & CO. (PROPRIETARY), Ltd., R. T., and KALKWARF, H. Oct. 16, 1939, No. 27956. [Class 23] A centrifugal strainer separator has a conical drum 6 with a straining surface and a second drum 5 with an imperforate surface arranged inside the first drum. They are supported from a plate 4 which serves as a distributor plate and are arranged in a casing 19. The plate 4 is keyed to a shaft 10 coupled by flanges 12. 13 to the shaft 14 of an electric motor 15 enclosed by a casing 16 with vent openings 17. The mixture is supplied through the inlet 1 to the reception chamber 2 above the plate 4. It then passes through the apertures 23 in the plate to the space 8 between the drums 5, 6. The liquid, and such small solids as can pass through the straining surface, are collected in the trough 20 from which they are drawn by the pipe 22. while the solids pass to the end of the space 8 and drop to the floor round the casing 16, or drop into a receptacle. The apertures 23 in the plate 4 are directed forward in the direction of rotation of the plate, and the drums 5, 6 may have curved walls of bowl or trumpet shape.
