Abstract
549,683. Extraction apparatus. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I., LEVINE A. A. and DENT, R. J. May 28, 1941, No. 6831. [Class 91] The extraction of oils, fats and waxes from solid materials of the kind that at least some of the solid materials tend to accumulate in the upper layers of the solvent is carried out in an apparatus of the type in which the solution is removed through a filter, the apparatus being characterized in that the filter is maintained at a point below the surface of the liquid and means are provided for conducting the solution after it has passed through the filter to a point at a higher elevation than the filter, whereby the level of the liquid in the extraction apparatus is maintained at a point higher than the level of the filter. In Fig. 1 the solids are passed down the tube 4 by the screw 5 against an upward flow of solvent. The solvent passes through the filter 9 in the outlet box 8 to a level 24 of the liquid in the tube. The solvent is removed through a tube 12 which is carried upwards to a point such that it flows over an outlet at the same height as the level 24.
