[Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi)] A rotary pump 20 for a two-stroke engine is provided with two sets of blades 22, 23 supplying charging and scavenging air to piston-controlled inlet ports 9d and with. blades 27 for drawing the engine exhaust from ports 9b and expelling it through a casing 18. Fig. la shows one cylinder 9 of an engine having four similar radial cylinders, the rotary pump member 20 being mounted on the engine shaft 6 and the fixed member 25 bolted to lugs 9c on the engine cylinders. The exhaust ports 9b are controlled by slots in a spring-loaded ring valve 28, carried by the rotor 20 and sliding over a plate 30 having slots 30b, 30a registering respectively with the inlet and exhaust ports 9d, 9b. The plate 30 also has slots for cooling air, which is admitted to the casing 18 at 19, mixes with the exhaust at 20a and is expelled by the fan blades 27 through the annular casing or silencer 18a. The cylinders 9 are supplied with combustible mixture by charging cylinders 8 .having valves 16 as described in Specification 552,404. The Provisional Specification mentions the application of the invention to single-cylinder and to multi-cylinder V-type and in-line engines.
