[Class 83 (iv)] An electric soldering tool for application to work not easily accessible comprises a body 1 held in one hand and having extending therefrom two electrodes 12, 13 movable towards one another by hand-operated means on the body, which means also actuates a switch during the last portion of the movement of the electrode. The electrodes which are applied to the objects to be soldered so as to embrace them may be made of an alloy sold under the Registered Trade Mark " Monel." The body, which is made of electrically. and heat insulating material, is in halves provided with a pistol grip and contains a bent metal bar 20 to which is secured the electrode 13 and a conductor 5. The electrode 12 is carried in a holder 21 pivoted at 17 in the body and secured at its other end to a link 11 of a toggle 11, 19, the link 19 being pivoted at 7 and being integral with an internal trigger member 9. An external trigger 8 which is also pivoted at 7 carries the movable element 3 of a switch 3, and connected to the other conductor of the circuit and is grooved to receive the spring 10 for operating the trigger 9. When the trigger 8 is pressed the toggle 11, 19 is straightened by movement of the trigger 9 by the spring 10 and the switch member 3 then engages the member 2 to complete the circuit of the secondary of a transformer. On releasing the trigger 8 the switch is first opened and the electrodes are then separated by the spring 15. The rod 21 is also connected to the pivot 7 by a conductor 22 to prevent sparking at the link connections. The closing and opening of the electrode is controlled by adjustable stops 14, 16.
