Abstract

569,774. Wall plugs. RULE, T. B. Nov. 19, 1943, No. 19329. [Class 89 (i)] A wall or foundation, &c. plug comprises a bolt with a tapered end b, Fig. 1, screwing into a sleeve tapped for the bolt at the outer end and having the bore tapered at the inner end to suit the bolt. The tapered end is slit for expansion and the slits terminate in holes k, Fig. 3, in a circumferential groove h. Other grooves are provided to improve the grip on the wall, &c. The sleeve has recesses e for a key to hold it whilst the bolt is being screwed in by a slot or by flats c. A nut blanked off as shown in Fig. 2 may be used for inserting the bolt. The taper on the bolt may be reversely arranged to expand by a draw-back action. The socket may be threaded to receive a hardwood plug c, Fig. 11, the excess length of which is sawn off after insertion. In other forms the socket is made from tubular stock. The sleeve may be of sheet or other malleable metal or may be of cast alloy. The bolt may be separate from the tapered end so that a different bolt may be used for securing the plug in place to that employed for securing the object to the wall &c.
