Abstract
575,444. Gilled tubes for heat-exchangers. SENIOR ECONOMISERS, Ltd., and HARDY, L. E. Nov. 20, 1943, No. 19419. [Class 64 (iii)] An economiser or other heat-exchange apparatus with tubes fitted with external gills separate from the tubes includes rhomboidal tube units in each of which the two branch tubes a, b are permanently joined at each end by butt-welding to a junction box c, d comprising a solid steel forging through which ready access can be gained to the interior of the tubes. The gills n form parts of units made in halves which are clamped together to embrace both tubes, the bosses of the gill units being approximately streamlined in cross-section. Separate gill units may, however, be provided for each tube. Flanged castings p at the ends of the tube units can be bolted together to form end walls.
