Abstract

585,749. Furnace hearths. LOWE, J. S. Aug. 20, 1945, No. 21225. [Class 51 (ii)] A furnace hearth comprises rectangular plates a with tongues b projecting from the lower parts of two adjacent sides and recesses c in the other two sides to receive tongues on adjacent plates, the joints between plates being at an angle to the charging and discharging motion to minimise the possibility of the charging forks or tongs getting into the joints. The corner plates d have an upstanding edge e, two sides f, g, at right angles to the edge and a diagonally disposed side j. The sides f, g have a recess h and projection i, respectively, and the side j has a recess k. The side plates have a raised edge m and square and inclined sides n, o, r, s, having recesses and projections to engage complementary projections and recesses. If desired, each side of the plates may have both a recess and a projection.
