Abstract
591,756. Hydraulic vices. SANDERS, H. B., and SANDERS, B. W. May 22, 1945, No. 12801. [Class 61 (ii)] The body 12 of a manually-operable hydraulic vice is integral with the fixed jaw 13 and is provided with a sliding jaw 15. Attached to the vice body 12 is a reservoir 40 for the working fluid, such as oil, which is drawn through an orifice (not shown) into a pump chamber 45, from whence it is expelled by a hand-operated pump comprising a piston 51 and a handle 46. The working fluid passes through a non-return valve 31 into a fixed cylinder 20, in which slides a ram connected to the sliding jaw 15. By a to-and-fro movement of the pump handle 46 the ram is moved back and the sliding jaw forced into clamping position. A release valve operated by the screw 34 allows the working fluid in the cylinder 20 to escape into the reservoir 40 and return tension springs 54 move the sliding jaw out of clamping position. This movement may be arrested at any time by closing the release valve. The sliding jaw may be locked in the clamping position by screws &c. U.S.A. Specification 2,107,970 is referred to.
