Abstract

593,392. Piston rings &c. SALES, W. A., and HOBOURN, P. L. May 31, 1945, No. 13637. [Class 122 (i)] An oil control ring comprises a flexible lip or skirt 3, Fig. 3, having in it slits &c. 9 which provide independent flexible parts adapted to contact the cylinder wall &c. at an acute angle. The ring may be of channel or angle section and part of it be dished to cooperate with the piston groove, after the manner of a diaphragm, to direct the resilient segments into contact with the cylinder &c. Oil holes in the ring communicate with oil holes in the piston &c. The ring may be disposed beneath a piston gas ring 12, Fig. 10.
