597,756. Rotary kilns. SMIDTH & CO., Ltd., F. L. Aug. 24, 1945, No. 21833. Convention date, Aug. 24, 1944. Addition to 580,030. [Class 51 (ii)] [Also in Groups II and XIII] A rotary kiln, or the like as claimed in claim I of the parent Specification has the annular member surrounding the shell provided with circumferential flanges having smooth surfaces which are engaged by slide shoes or the equivalent at points spaced away from the supports so as to prevent the shell tilting. Encircling a shell 10 substantially midway between its ends is a ring 18 welded to the shell and having driven gear rings 25 bolted to either side. The ring 18 has a smooth peripheral surface 20 engaged by spaced horizontal, self-adjusting, supporting slide shoes 29, and circumferential flanges 22 with smooth inner surfaces 23 which engage slide shoes 46, to take horizontal thrust and prevent tilting, spaced at 43, 44, 45, Fig. 1, and supported on a fixed casing 41 enclosing the ring 18 and associated parts. The bottom of the casing 41 is filled with a pool of lubricant 52. In a modification the slide shoes at 45 may be dispensed with, the slide shoes at 43, 44 being then disposed a little above the horizontal diameter of the shell and the supporting slide shoes 29 made to co-act with the surfaces 23 of the flange 18 as well as the surface 20.
