Abstract

605,680. Fluid-pressure engines: CARLING, F. R., and WRIGHT, C. S. Jan. 3, 1946, No. 250. [Classes 122 (ii) and 122 (iii)] In a reciprocating engine particularly for a fluid-pressure-operated hammer, two pistons g, hare interconnected by a stem i each working in and opening to exhaust a different cylinder of a pair of cylinders b, c, open at one end and to which fluid under pressure is admitted from a port f between the cylinders by a sleeve valve k freely sliding on the stem i. Each piston has a collar g<1>, h<1> with passages g2, h<2> extending therethrough. As shown in the drawing, pressure fluid from the port f is pass-. ing through the passage g<2> to raise the piston g. Piston h, is being drawn into its cylinder c and the collar h<1> will contact the valve k to move it to close communication between port f and passage g<2> and open passage h<2> to the port f.
