Abstract
610,958. Resilient mountings. THIRY, L. F. April 15, 1946, No. 11583. [Class 108 (iii)] A vibrating absorbing mounting for connecting two relatively movable members 6, 7 (Fig. 7) comprises a liquid-containing chamber enclosed between at least three relatively movable elements 1, 2a, 2b connected to one another by resilient bushings 4a, 4b, so as to enclose the chamber, and means for connecting two of the elements 1, 2a to the relatively movable members while leaving the third element 2b capable of independent movement under the influence of liquid-pressure variations within the chamber. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, the liquid chamber is partitioned by a rigid diaphragm 25 having an orifice 28, flow through which is varied by a plug 27 thermostatically rotatable by a bimetallic spiral 30, the setting of which may be varied by a knob 33. A space below the filler plug 16 may be provided for compressible gas, the pressure of which may be varied by means of a plug 20. Axial deflection may be limited by abutments 8, 10, 11, 12 and by a rubber buffer 13. The thermostatically - controlled orifice may be replaced by a plain orifice, the area of which is variable by a manuallyoperated set-screw with which may be arranged in parallel, a one-way flap valve. In a further construction (Fig. 6, not shown), the bushings 4a, 4b are screwed to the outer ends of the element 1 and to the inner surfaces of the elements 2a, 2b which are of cup-like formation. A metering-rod secured to the inner end-surface of the element 2a extends through an orifice formed within the bore of the element 1 to vary the damping in accordance with relative movement of the mounting members and a one-way flap valve may also control the orifice. The liquid chamber may comprise a passage of appreciable length and the bushings which are preferably located by radial compression, may be otherwise connected, e.g. by bonding. A list of suitable rubber compounds for the bushings is included in the Specification.
