Abstract

619,435. Piston packings. DENNY, D. F. Dec. 10, 1946, No. 36437. [Class 122 (i)] In a sealing device for pistons and the like, a soft packing ring B of non- metallic extrudable material and a backing ring A of substantially non-extrudable material are arranged within an annular groove C of a piston or the like, the backing ring A being disposed on the low pressure side and seeking to prevent extension of the soft packing ring B. The rings are preferably made of rubber, the backing ring having a Shore hardness between 95-98, and the softer ring one of between 50-55.
