622,974. Ventilating. STIRLING, R. B., and KEITH, R. F. Feb. 13, 1947, No. 4201. [Class 137] An air diffuser comprises a flanged annular spigot a resting on a flanged ring b spaced from a flanged ring c by a packing of felt d, the flanges being connected together by means of long pins e which carry deflecting rings f, g, h of diminishing internal diameter held in fixed position thereon by means of distance pieces i. Guide pins k carried by brackets are threaded through holes in lugs l on the cover plate m. The cover plate may be raised or lowered on the spindle n, enclosed in a rod o, which is rotated by means of a knob p situated on the end of the spindle projecting beneath the lowermost deflecting plate h. The cover plate m is provided with a packing ring s which seals on the spigot when the plate m is lowered. The spigot is introduced through an opening in the ceiling w and fits within a short branch of an air duct u. The air supply in the diffuser is varied by raising and lowering the cover plate m and may completely shut off when the cover plate seals the inlet end of the spigot. The guide pins k prevent rotation of the cover plate during such motion.
