623,904. Sewing-machines. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO. May 27, 1947, No. 14028. Convention date, March 4. [Class 112] [Also in Group XXVI] A sewing machine has a thread carrying looper, a loop spreader having an actuator bar provided with a connector pin, and a rock shaft having a lever slidingly engaging in the connector pin to actuate the bar. In a twin needle machine the work is fed by needles 25 and a co-operating feed dog (not snown) driven by mechanism similar to that described in Specification 547,996, and the loopers 32 are oscillated by a rock lever 37 connected by a link 38 to a crank 39 on the main drive shaft 40. Spreader fingers 43 on a carrier 44 adjustably secured to the actuator bar 50 are reciprocated by the lever 62 on the rock shaft 64 slidingly engaging the connector pin 61. The shaft 64 is rocked by a pin 67 sliding in a ball 70 housed in a strap 72 of an eccentric 74 on the main drive shaft. When applied to a wide gauge machine, Figs. 13, 15 (not shown) the spreader carrier is housed on the under side of the throat plate and the attachment of the carrier to the actuator bar is such that carrier and throat plate may be removed as a unit. In this case the spreader fingers are hooked.
