Abstract

Unvulcanized natural rubber is plasticized by mixing it with 0.1 to 1.0 per cent by weight of an 0,01-acylamidodiphenyl-disulphide having the general formula:- <FORM:0628875/V/1> in which R is an alkyl radical containing 1-12 carbon atoms or an aryl radical containing 6-10 carbon atoms. R may be a methyl, ethyl, butyl, octyl, lauryl, phenyl, tolyl, xylyl, naphthyl or like radical. Plasticisation is preferably effected at 115-165 DEG C. in the presence of 0.5 per cent of 0, 01-dibenzamido-diphenyldisulphide with the optional addition of fillers, reinforcing agents, carbon black and sulphur. Specification 583,645 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also compositions of the above-mentioned disulphides with natural rubber and also with synthetic rubbers of which butadiene-styrene copolymer and butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer are specified, in all proportions. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 583,645.
