Abstract

In the production of a non-liquid dentifrice, particularly a toothpaste, there is incorporated therein one or more soluble fluorides in a concentration of at the most 0.6 per cent, and preferably less than 0.3 per cent sodium and/or potassium fluoride are preferably employed. The composition preferably contains chalk and/or one or more salts of trivalent organic acids such as citrates. Examples of suitable composition are (1) sodium fluoride, chalk, tragacanth, dry soap, glycerine, saccharine, perfume, alcohol and water, and (2) sodium fluoride, chalk, tragacanth, dry soap, glycerine, sugar, sodium citrate, perfume and water. The Specification as open to inspection under Scetion 91 comprises also the replacement of fluorides in the mixture by other substances which prevent oral glycolysis such as mono-iodo acetic acid, oxalates, citrates, dinitro-2, 4-phenol dichlorophenol, indophenol, quinone, deoxycholic and other bile acids, phosphogluconic acid, lactates and vitamin K (methylnaphthaquinone); and the inclusion of adsorbents such as kaolin, kieselguhr and bentonite. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
