Abstract
655,897. Centrifugal pumps; turbines. PATAY, M., PATAY, L., and PATAY, P. April 24, 1950, No. 18442. [Class 110(i) and 110(iii)] The rotor of a pump or turbine comprises a tube of which at least a part is in the form of an Archimedean spiral. The cross-sectional area of the tube may diminish towards the outlet. Fig. 3 shows a handdriven pump in which water is discharged by a rotating tube 1 into a trough 3. Non- return valves are provided in the suction pipe 2 and in the tube 1. If the tube 1 is formed with its discharge end at a higher level than the rest of the tube, its non- return valve may be omitted. A cover 12 can be removed for priming. In another embodiment. Fig, 4, the rotating tube C is contained in a hollow disc B which rotates in a chamber A. The suction pipe D communicates with the tube C through openings in the walls of a hollow shaft G. Embodiments operating as turbines and driven. by gas, steam or water are described. Combustion of a fuel may take place in a chamber at the centre of the rotor.
