Abstract

673,516. Toothbrushes. BRESSLER, L. R. June 5, 1950, No. 13958/50. Class 19. A toothbrush, composed of a number of bristle-carrying sections and a handle spaced from each other and held together by a flexible resilient leaf member of springy metal to which they are attached, is characterised in that the leaf member has both holes and notches all of which are in register with tufts of bristles. Conveniently the toothbrush comprises an elongated handle having a head end portion, a plurality of longitudinally-spaced separate bristle sections disposed of forwardly of said head end portion, an elongated relatively thin substantially flat flexible member having a secured end in said head and secured to the bristle carrying sections. The resilient member is provided with a central row of bristle holes and with notches in opposite longitudinal edges. In the figures the head portion 6 comprises bristle-supporting sections 8, 10, 12 and 14. A leaf spring member 16 has apertures 18 and cut-out notches 20. The toothbrush may conveniently be moulded from plastic material and in this case the upper ends of the bristle tufts 24 are embedded in plastic. At least some of the bristle tufts are disposed to coincide with the openings 18 and notches 20. Other apertures 19 in the member 16, not in alignment with bristle tufts are provided and may be used to assist in securing the leaf member to the bristle carrying portions of the brush.
