Abstract

676,487. Magnetic separators. FAIRWEATHER, H. G. C., (Frantz, S. G.). June 15, 1950, No. 14975/50: Class 72 A magnetic separator comprises a body having inlet and outlet passages, two spaced co-axial magnets magnetized axially and in the same direction, a plurality of attractors of open construction between the magnets, a non - magnetic casing surrounding the space between the magnets, a shell of non-magnetic material surrounding and spaced from the casing, and channels permitting flow of a liquid from the inlet, between the magnets to the outlet. As shown, a body 10, having inlet 11 and outlet 12, has a magnetic shell 13 connected to it by a screwed rod 14. A magnet 25, having one pole against the body 10, is supported by an inner non- magnetic tube 19 which is surrounded by magnetic attractors 22 of the type described in Specification 480,586 and which penetrates a lower magnet 26. An outer non- magnetic tube 20 is supported on the magnet 26 and surrounds the attractors 22 and the magnet 25. Passages in both magnets allow flow of liquid as indicated by the arrows. One magnet only may be used, the other being replaced by a block of iron. The assembly is such that the magnetic parts may be removed for clearing without breaking the inlet and outlet joints.
