677,232. Making pencils by extrusion. LORENIAN, Z. Aug. 10, 1948 [Sept. 1, 1945], No. 21074/48. Class 87(ii) [Also in Group XV] Hot, dry plastic material is forced by a screw 9 through a nozzle 3, and marking cores or the material from which they are to be made are fed through an inner nozzle 6 and out through nozzle 3. The nozzle 3 is tapered at is inlet end and the end of nozzle 6 also is tapered, and the material travels through the passage thus formed and slides on to the marking core, as the latter emerges from its nozzle, at an angle of less than 45 degrees to the longitudinal axis of the marking core. The wall thickness of the nozzle 6 is less than the diameter of its bore. The cores are fed one by one from a magazine 11 by a spring-pressed plate 14. More than one core may be fed at a time, the pencil leaving nozzle 3 having more than one marking core. A screen and homogenizing disc 10 are provided in member 5 which supports the nozzles.
