Class 122(v) A piston rod oil seal for location between two axially spaced abutments such as the end caps e', f<SP>1</SP> of coaxial cylinders e, f of a hydraulic damper comprises a rubber or like hat washer a with a frustoconical cone a<SP>1</SP>, a spring metal hat washer b with a frustoconical crown b<SP>2</SP> which is serrated to form finger springs and mates over the crown a<SP>1</SP> of the rubber washer to press the latter into contact with the piston rod d, and an axial compression spring c that bears against one cylinder end cap e<SP>1</SP> and thrusts the washers together against the other cylinder end cap f<SP>1</SP>. Dirt may be excluded by a sealing lip formed at the back of the washer a remote from the crown a<SP>1</SP> or by a leather or felt washer fitted between the rubber washer a and the end cap f'.
