Abstract

678,830. Stoppers for vacuum flasks &c. MAYS, E. L. April 13, 1951 [April 17, 1950], No. 9371/50. Class 125(iii). A stopper for heat insulated containers comprises a hollow evacuated glass member 10a with one or more rings 12 of flexible tasteless material lying within the mouth of the container to form a seal. The head portion 10b is indented to provide a gripping surface and the other end recessed to accommodate the sealing pip 10d so that it is less liable to damage. Recesses are provided for the rings 12. The upper ring 12 may be tapered to fit the mouth of the flask. The head portion may comprise a separate plastic moulding cemented to the evacuated glass stopper the pip being embedded in the cement in a recess of the head portion. The internal surface of the glass may be silvered. The sealing rings 12 may be hollow or of curved shoulder section. Fig 6 shows a double stopper for wide-mouthed vacuum jars 61 comprising an annular evacuated glass member 64 with sealing rings 65, 66 the central opening of which is closed by an evacuated glass stopper 60, the combined stopper being used for solids and the central stopper 60 for liquids.
