Abstract
691,367. Self-closing valves. GUMMERS, Ltd. March 6, 1951 [March 6. 1950], No. 5588/50. Class 135 In a self-closing tap or valve having a valve member 13 which is normally closed by a spring against a seat 21 and is opened by the rotation of a rotatable and axially slidable valve operating spindle 17 mounted in a guide member 19 detachably fitted to the valve casing, the spindle 17 has a lateral extension 25 rotatably carrying a ball 28 which is in rolling contact with a cam face 27 on the guide member 19 so as to impart axial movement to the spindle on rotation of the latter. Stop means in the form of an extension 29 on the guide member at the lowest point of the cam surface 27 limit rotation of the spindle 17 to less than one revolution. The spindle passes through a gland 23 and carries an operating handle 24. The valve member has an extension 18 adapted to engage the base of the spindle 17. The tap casing has a lower part 10 with two inlets 15, 16 and an upper part 11 with a lateral outlet. The part 11 carries a ported inner casing 14.
