Abstract

694,531. Saw-tooth generating circuits. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and TOWNSEND, G. B. March 24, 1952 [April 10, 1951], No. 8318/51. Class 40 (vi). A saw-tooth generator of the type in which a capacitance is charged through a resistance and discharged rapidly through a valve, has a positive voltage connected in series with the discharge path to prevent the anode voltage of the valve falling to a value at which the anode resistance is high, means being provided to prevent the capacitor charging reversely. The capacitor 2 in the circuit shown is charged through resistor 1 and periodically discharged through valve 8 and the required positive voltage is developed across a resistor 6 of a potentiometer 5, 6, reverse charging being prevented by a diode 10. The saw-tooth output is applied to the deflection coils of a television set through an amplifier valve 15 which is periodically rendered non-conducting by frame synchronizing pulses derived from the input at 16 by integration in circuit 17, 18. The resulting positive pulse at the anode of valve 15 renders valve 8 conducting to discharge the capacitor 2. A capacitor 21 is charged negatively during the flyback by grid current and maintains valve 8 cut off during the succeeding long flank. Resistors 22, 23 and 24 adjust the frequency amplitude and waveform of the saw-tooth output. It is suggested that the discharging valve 8 alternatively could be rendered periodically conductive by connecting it in a blocking oscillator circuit.
