Abstract
703,456. Liquid filters. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Oct. 25, 1951 [Nov. 4, 1950], No. 24919/51. Class 46 A filter element for liquids, e.g. for filtering oil in internal combustion engines-comprises a central support 20 and a a strip 40 of filter material e.g. resin impregnated paper, in the form of a plurality of double wait pleats 42 and of intermediate connecting and spacing portions 44 which contact with the support, the pleats 42-being curved to form sludge pockets 46 of uniform width, e.g. of involute shape between adjacent pleats. The inner surfaces of each of the pleats 42 are in contact with each other, the texture of the material being sufficiently rough to form passages within each pleat for the filtrate. The support 20 is provided with apertures 22 for the filtrate to flow thereinto. The strip 40 is sealed to upper and lower plates 12, 14 by resin adhesive. An apertured cardboard or sheet metal protector strip 48 encloses the strip 40 and has its ends secured by a seam 50 and its edges secured to plates 12, 14 by adhesive 54. A pair of flanged dished annular discs 26 are secured one to each end of the support tube 20 as by an external flange and to the periphery of an aperture 18 in an end plate as by an internal flange 36.
