Abstract
706,913. Aerials. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Aug. 24, 1951 [Aug. 28, 1950], No. 21221/50. Class 40 (7). [Also in Group XXIV] A universal pivot support mechanism for radar aerials adapted to give unobstructed movement about axes at right angles over a range greater than 180 degrees comprises a bracket 13 on which the reflector dish 10 is pivoted about an axis 12, the bracket being pivotally mounted upon a carriage 14 by means of a pin 15 iournalled in the carriage on an axis at right angles to the axis 12. The carriage 14 is mounted upon a pair of coupled cranks 17, 18 on a fixed base 16 so that it is constrained to move parallel to said base on movement of the cranks. A chain connection 24 is provided between pivot pin 20 of crank 18 and pivot pin 15 of the bracket 13 so that the axis 25 of the bracket is maintained parallel to the cranks 17 and 18. If the distance between axis 12 and pivot pin 15 is made equal to the throw of the cranks the point of intersection of axes 12 and 25 remains stationary with respect to the base 16 on angular movement of the cranks. Suitable electric motors may be mounted upon the base 16 and bracket 13 for rotating the cranks 17, 18 and the reflector dish 10 about its axis 12.
