Abstract

716,602. Automatic voltage control systems; converting. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. June 4, 1951 [June 7, 1950], No. 14164/50. Classes 38(2) and 38(4) In an automatically controlled E.H.T. supply arrangement, of the type in which the output of an oscillator is rectified by a voltage multiplying rectifier/condenser circuit, the voltage across one condenser of the multiplier is used as the measure of the output voltage. The output voltage of a voltage tripling rectifier arrangement 12, 13, 14, supplied from an oscillator 1, is controlled by tapping a portion of a voltage proportional to the output from a potentiometer 19 connected across the first condenser 15 comparing it in the grid cathode circuit of a valve 21 with a reference voltage derived from a gas discharge tube 23, and controlling a valve 27 to correctively control the screen voltage of the oscillator 1. A voltage component proportional to the load current is derived from the drop across a resistor 10 in series with the load, and this is deducted from the control voltage to compensate for voltage fluctuations due to load current changes. In a modification, the reference voltage and the control voltage are applied respectively to the control electrode of a cathode coupled pair of valves, the difference voltage being obtained from the anode of which ever valve gives the correct polarity for application to valve 27.
