Abstract
719,197. Treating gases with liquids. KOPPERS GES., H. Jan. 29, 1953 [Jan. 30, 1952], No. 2638/53. Class 55 (2) A bubble tray assembly for a distillation column &c. comprises superposed trays each of stepped formation with wires determining the height of liquid on the successive steps which are arranged as a spiral stairway winding round the column axis. A tray having three steps 1, 2, 3 is fed with condensate from an upper plate through a conduit 4, liquid passing over a weir 6 on to step 1 and thence over weir 7 on to step 2 and over weir 9 on to step 3 finally flowing over a weir 10 into a discharge pipe 11. A part 8 of the weirs of less height near the column wall enables most of the condensate to overflow near the outer edge of the steps. The drop from step to step increases in the direction of now. In a modification a diametral. wall separates the tray into halves each with two steps, liquid passing from one half to the oppositely located half of the tray beneath, so that two separate streams flow alternately round the left and right hand halves of the column.
