Abstract
725,276. Hydraulic mining. MOYNIHAN, T., MOYNIHAN, T. C., and MOYNIHAN, D. Jan. 6, 1953 [Jan. 11, 1952], No. 391/53. Class 68(1). In a method of mining coal jets of water under pressure act on the coal face and the water and coal detached thereby are drained from the face A into a sump 11, from whence the mixture is pumped into elevated storage bins 18 to be either stored therein or delivered to a further processing plant. The method may be applied in open cast mining or in underground mining. In the latter case it is used to form tunnels in the seam and may be used in conjunction with a header boring machine.
