Abstract
Articles resistant to corrosion and creep and made of alloys of the following composition: Cr 4.0-12.0, Co 10.0-55.0, Ti 0.5-8.0, Al 0.3-8.0, B 0.001-0.1, Zr 0.01-0.2, Mo 0-15.0, C 0-0.5 per cent, Ni, with impurities and residual deoxidants, the balance. The proportions of Ti, Al, Mo and C are so selected that the alloy when tested under a stress of 9 tons/square inch at 870 DEG C. has a life to fracture of 100 hours or more after subjection to a heat treatment comprising heating at 1200 DEG C. for 3 hours, cooling rapidly to 850 DEG C., maintaining this temperature for 24 hours and ageing at 700 DEG C. for 16 hours. The alloy may also contain one or more of the following elements Fe up to 10 per cent, W up to 5.0 per cent, Mn up to 10. per cent, Si up to 1.5 per cent and Nb or Ta or both up to 1.0 per cent in total. The alloys may be solution heated at a temperature not less than 1150 DEG C., given an intermediate heating at 750-1000 DEG C. and finally agehardened, e.g. at 700 DEG C. Specification 632,712 is referred to.
