Abstract

738,563. Winding yarn. REINERS, W. April 13, 1950 [April 16, 1949], No. 9137/50. Class 120(2). A cop, &c. winding machine is provided with automatic mechanism controlling cop-changing after a predetermined diameter or length of cop has been attained, the controlling means comprising a bar provided with stop, the said bar, which is stationary during winding, performing a reciprocating movement during cop-changing, the forward movement beginning when the cop has attained its predetermined dimensions and its return movement controlling a series of operations for cop-changing ending when winding is resumed. The thread from supply is guided by an eye 7, carried by a traverse guide 8 driven by a shaft 21 from the cop-tube driving spindle 11 driven by a belt 12 through a clutch 13, 14. The cop tube is supported between the end of the spindle 11 and a rotary spring-pressed bearing 10. When the cop has reached the required length, the support 6 contacts a stop 57 to move a lever 59, 60 about its supporting pivot 58 so to move a spring- pressed rod 61 to turn a lever 62, 63 about its pivot 64 and release a pawl 66, 67 which falls to bring a recess 68 into the path of movement of an arm 70 attached to a shaft 71 constantly oscillated by a cam 76 through a cam groove 74. The arm 70 is thus coupled by the pawl 66, 67 to a bar 33, 34, carrying the pawl, the bar 33, 34 being thus moved to the left, Fig. 1. This bar, through portions 32, 35 thereon, moves a lever 25, 26 to separate the clutch members 13, 14, brake the spindle 11, and so bring it to rest, and through a finger 29, separates the cop supports to allow the cop to fall into a trough 117 and brings a cop receiving trough M to the position M<SP>1</SP>. Continued movement of the bar 33, 34 to the left, Fig. 1, brings a member 41 attached thereto, against the thread traversing device 6 to move it towards the initial winding position, while a member 96 on the member 41 pushes the doffed cop in the trough 117 into the trough at M<SP>1</SP>, the thread connected to supply being positioned for clamping by the next cop-tube inserted, the thread being placed between the blades of scissors 49, 50. Shortly before the arm 70 reaches the extreme position 70<SP>1</SP>, a bolt 37 on the bar 33, 34 contacts an arm 38 of a lever 38, 46, 47 so that through a link 51, lever 52, shaft 53 and arms 54, 55, a new cop-tube in a feed trough 56 is brought between the winding heads and the scissors 49, 50 sever and clamp the ends of thread. Upon the return movement of the bar 33, 34, the cop tube in the trough 56 is clamped between the spindle 11 and bearing 10, the yarn from supply being held between the cop-tube and the spindle end 11. A bolt 36 on the bar contacts the lever 38 so that the feed trough 56 is moved back into position beneath a magazine of new cop-tubes and the scissors 49, 50 are opened. Driving engagement between the clutch members 13, 14 is now re-established and the movement of the lever 25, 26 causes the doffed cop in the trough M<SP>1</SP> to slip out of the trough into a suitable collecting receptacle. The arm 70 is then released from the pawl 66, 67, the spring 118 having reset the lever 62, 63 and the member 41 is locked in its " inactive " position by a spring 44. The cop tubes may be fed to the trough 56 by an intermittently-moved endless conveyer 94, Fig. 6, operated by pawl and ratchet gearing 99, 98 from the constantly oscillated shaft 71 carrying also a spring-urged lever 106. This lever strikes a spring-urged feeler 107 slideable in a support 108, so that if a cop-tube 82 is already in the trough 56 the spring 105 will " give " to allow the lever 106 to rest temporarily against the feeler 107 ; whereas if a cop-tube is absent from the trough 56, the feeler 107 will be pressed forwards thus rocking a lever 112, 113 to allow a fresh cop-tube to slide from the conveyer 94 down the plate 115 into the trough. The shape of the cam groove 74 may be varied so that a shorter bar 33, 34 may be employed. In further modifications, the bar 33, 34 may be replaced by a chain or segment moveable backwardly and forwardly. The rotary traverse guide 8 may be pivotally attached to the traverse support 6 and driven from the shaft 21 through a clutch so that it may be swung away for facilitating piecing-up. Specification 738,615 is referred to.
