Abstract

746,176. Saw-tooth generating circuits. MULLARD RADIO VALVE CO., Ltd. July 31, 1953 [Aug. 26, 1952], No. 21488/52. Class 40(6). In a line time-base generator of the type in which an efficiency diode and an H.T. boost capacitor are connected across an inductive output circuit of the generator, the cathode bias resistor of the output valve has a negative temperature coefficient so that its value varies inversely with the current through it. This prevents excessive screen grid current flowing before the efficiency diode cathode has warmed up sufficiently to provide the H.T. potential for the output valve anode. Additional protection can be provided by making the resistor such that when hot it still provides too much bias and by backing off this bias with a voltage obtained from the boost condenser 3 when it charges up.
