Abstract
763,316. Smoothing direct current. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Oct. 27, 1954 [Oct. 30, 1953], No. 31012/54. Class 38 (2). In order to stabilize the voltage across a load 6 in the collector circuit of a transistor 4, the emitter circuit of which is connected to a D.C. supply subject to fluctuations and the base circuit of which includes a comparatively high resistor 7, the base circuit is energized with fluctuating volts from the input. This may be done by connecting a capacitor 9 between the emitter and a centre tap 8 on the resistor 7. For complete compensation three capacitors may be connected between the emitter and three different tapping points on resistor 7, Fig. 3 (not shown), or, where as shown the D.C. supply is derived through a rectifier 2 from an A.C. source, the lower end of resistor 7 may be connected at 17 to a tapping on the input transformer, Fig. 4. In a further modification, the capacitor 9 may be replaced by a capacitor in series with a resistor which may be the heater filaments of electric discharge tubes supplied from the A.C. supply.
