Abstract
775,640. Transformers; supply systems for space discharge apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Dec. 16, 1955 [Dec. 29, 1954], No. 36118/55. Classes 38 (2) and 38 (4). A leakage transformer of the kind having the midpoint of the secondary winding earthed and suitable for use with space discharge apparatus comprising a magnetic core 2 on which is wound a primary winding 12 and a secondary winding consisting of two coils 15, 16 joined together at a common earth point 19, the coil 15 being more closely coupled to the primary winding 12 than is the coil 16, is characterized in that the more closely coupled coil 15 has a larger number of turns than does the less .closely coupled coil 16 thereby to reduce the difference in the short-circuit current values of the two coils. The number of turns of the coil 15 exceeds that of the coil 16 by between 10 and 30 per cent. In another embodiment the coils 15, 16, instead of being side-by-side, are wound one around the other on the same core portion.
